Following is a list of ingredients in a common commercial "lotion".
Water, Glycerin, Cetearyl alcohol, Petrolatum, Mineral oil, Ceteareth-20, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, Tridecyl Salicylate, Tocopheryl Acetate, stearic acid, Glyceryl Dilaurate, Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Methylparaben, Propylparaben,DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance
Several of these ingredients are petroleum by-products, silicone-based, and otherwise believed to contribute to polluting our bodies and the planet because they are not even bio-degradable and quite possibly toxic. Some of them are known to be allergens.
Why do companies use these ingredients? The simple answer is that they are cheap.
